What is the summer reading theme?

Designed for all ages, iREAD’s summer reading program features the idea of conservation! Conservation as a movement focuses on protecting species from extinction, maintaining and restoring habitats, enhancing ecosystem services, and protecting biological diversity. iREAD 2024: Read, Renew, Repeat makes for a wonderfully diverse summer reading program that encourages reading as a restorative method of self-improvement and self-preservation.

Not only is reading good for us and academically required, reading is pleasurable. Reading as a restorative method of self-conservation and self-care is a focus for all ages of our program this summer.

Renew
Also in the 21st century, common humanity is experiencing many ecological uncertainties and challenges. The renewal portion is to bring awareness to the many ways anyone of any age can participate in the conservation movement to help protect species from extinction, maintain and restore habitats, enhance ecosystem services, and help protect biological diversity. We hope to bring awareness to people in communities all over the world.

Repeat
Read and renew again and again!

How can you participate in summer reading?

Our summer reading program will run from June 1st through August 15th. We have a calendar full of programs for all ages as well as reading challenges. Readers will have the chance to earn prizes throughout the summer.

Kids and teens can pick up a reading tracker or print out their own at https://berlin.cwmars.org/summerreading. When you’ve read for 1 hour, 5 hours, 10 hours, etc., come back to the library and spin the prize wheel! You’ll also get a ticket towards one of our grand prize raffles. AND you can earn extra tickets when you attend a summer reading program.

Prize wheel prizes include: APEX Entertainment Laser Tag passes, Boundless Adventure passes, WooSox tickets, Berlin General Store gift certificates, and small goodies.

Grand prizes:

Option 1: Planetarium projector, crystal growing kit, LEGO set.

Option 2: Sketch pad, journal, art kit, Bose speaker.

Adults can pick up or print out a bingo sheet. Every complete bingo will earn a ticket for the grand prize raffle, which includes a draw string bag and gift certificates to local businesses.
